When he and wife Judy bought a double block with a large, comfortable home on it close to the local bowling club, he’d envisaged having an end or two and a quiet drink in the clubhouse a few times a week.
He didn’t once expect to be living next door to a caravan park, with vans coming day and night, for weeks/months on end.
The Martins received notice of a development application from Tamworth Regional Council about the bowling club’s proposed temporary camping grounds.
The plan allows space for 24 caravans (no tents will be permitted), which would be implemented during the country music festival and for tournaments throughout the year.
“I didn’t mind having caravans there during the festival, because the whole place is booked out,” Mr Martin said.
“But when they start talking about using the club grounds as a camping area for tournaments throughout the year, that gets a bit much.”
Mr Martin said the area was zoned residential and he didn’t fancy giving up his quiet, peaceful existence when- ever the club had a tournament.
“There are plenty of caravan parks around that aren’t filled up out of festival time,” he said.
“There’s one in Kootingal itself, so it’s effectively cutting them and every other park out of a living, too.”
Residents with objections to the DA have until October 15 to lodge their documentation with council.
