Jarrah Welder Isaacs handed himself into Inverell police yesterday following an investigation into the alleged attack on two people at a home in Inverell on Tuesday, but has denied the offences.

Police have been told several people were gathered at a home in Lawrence St when an argument between the 32-year-old and a woman broke out in the front yard.

“The accused is alleged to have thrown a garden fork at the woman which narrowly missed her,” Inverell Inspector Rowan O’Brien told The Leader yesterday.

“He then picked up a child’s scooter and allegedly struck her several times in the back region.”

The woman tried to take shelter inside the home, but Isaacs followed her before another man tried to intervene in the argument.

Police claim Isaacs then picked up a longneck bottle of beer and a bottle of wine, and smashed the first bottle, allegedly arming himself.

“He smashed the longneck and (allegedly) used the jagged edge of the bottle to strike the female in the left cheek area causing a jagged laceration,” Inspector O’Brien said.

“The other male attempted to intercede and he was (allegedly) struck in the lip area with the jagged edge.”

Police were called but Isaacs allegedly fled the scene before officers arrived. The man and woman were both treated at Inverell hospital and received sutures for the wounds and have since been released.

A crime scene at the home was combed by forensic officers and detectives spoke with several witnesses and the alleged victims, as part of the investigation.

After questioning  him yesterday, detectives charged Isaacs with two counts of reckless wounding, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and common assault.

He appeared in Inverell Local Court late yesterday and pleaded not guilty to the four charges.

He lodged a bid for bail but Magistrate Michael O’Brien found there was an unacceptable risk and refused his release.

A brief of evidence has been ordered before the case returns to court in November.
