UNPREDICTABLE spring weather is on the way for the next few days with isolated thunderstorms and scattered showers throughout the New England and North West region.
Yesterday afternoon a severe thunderstorm warning was issued by the Bureau of Meteorology for Tamworth, Armidale and Moree with a chance of hailstones and heavy rainfall throughout the region.
Drivers travelling along the New England Highway near Armidale had to deal with a hail storm which created dangerous driving conditions.
About 2.30pm, reports indicated large hailstones caused havoc after a camper van reportedly left the road just outside the city, coming to rest in a ditch.
Passersby suggested ice on the road could have contributed to the accident which resulted in long delays on the highway.
Today isolated storms are expected until late afternoon, with light north-westerly winds becoming lighter throughout the day.
Tomorrow showers will ease but cloud cover is expected to increase with a return of light showers for Thursday and Friday.
Temperatures will warm up toward the middle of the week, reaching a top of 26 degrees Celsius on Thursday and milder evening temperatures will be the norm, hovering around the seven and eight degree mark.
However, sunshine will return for the weekend, with rainy weather disappearing late Friday.
