The Sydney school won both the Under 13 and 14 divisions while undefeated Northern Inland cruised to a victory in the Under 16 Division.
It was another good junior carnival featuring 12 teams and almost 150 players, said Tamworth District Cricket Association president Richard Bullock.
He and wife Hayley, the TDCA secretary, organised and ran the carnival for the Northern Inland Cricket Council and Central Northern Zone.
CNZ chairman Terry Psarakis thanked them for their hard work a long with the umpires, the parents and team coaches and managers.
He also thought it another successful tournament which also helps CNZ selectors look at and evaluate young players for the upcoming Bradman Cup and Kookaburra Cup competitions.
Bullock said the tough competition over three days was just what the young players needed.
“We had the three Bradman Cup selectors, Brownie (Terry Browne), Rod (Bryant) and Kel (Walls) here on the weekend,” he said.
“The boys all played well especially our Northern Inland Under 16s. They went through undefeated.
“It was also a great introduction for Scots College. They won the 13s and 14s and were overall carnival champions.
“A great start for them.”
It wasn’t all “smooth sailing” for Scots College.
“They had bus troubles getting here and on the second day they thought they started at 10am not 9am. They weren’t really prepared for a hot weekend, which we got but they will be better prepared with eskies and water next year.”
The tournament followed the TDCA’s successful Bash For Cash the weekend before.
“It gives us a great start into the first round of the local competition this weekend,” Bullock said.
He will miss that start though as he and wife Hayley have a week in Thailand to recover from a busy pre-season and head into the new local and representative season.
The TDCA begins the new season this Saturday with Old Boys and Souths in a grand final replay while North Tamworth plays City United and Bective-East Bulls hosting West Tamworth.
The first rep game of the new season is the new Plan B Twenty20 Country Cricket NSW competition which will see the Northern Inland Bolters playing at home (No. 1 Oval). The State Veterans Cricket Championships also start in Tamworth that same day.
