SEVEN young Calrossy Anglican School students took off for Sydney yesterday to compete in NSW All Schools Athletics Championship.
Ellie New, Sophie Hedley, Emma Klasen, Grace Barry, Sharnee Magner, William Burnett and Nathan Clark have all qualified for the All Schools with Clark’s competition in high jump, long jump and discus dependent on his recovery from an injury suffered playing and starring for the Tamworth Under 14 Thunderbolt boys’ basketball side at last week’s National Club Championships in Perth.
He was top scorer in a number of those games and qualified for the All Schools earlier in the year despite missing the CIS Athletics Championship due to injury as well.
Fellow Calrossy student William Burnett will also compete in the high and long jumps after winning gold medals at the CIS Athletics Championship in his 12 year age division.
He jumped personal bests in both, including 4.96m in the long jump.
Emma Klasen also won gold at the CIS Championships, winning her 100m and 200m age divisions and breaking the 100m CIS record with a personal best of 12.44secs.
She is currently the NSW and Australian 13-year age champion after winning the 100m and 200m at the national All Schools in Tasmania last year
She also won at the National Little As in Perth earlier this year.
Sophie Hedley also excelled at the recent CIS Championships, winning silver medals in her 13-year long jump and triple jump.
She also jumped a personal best for the long jump with a 5.07m leap while Sharnee Magner also won silver at the CIS tiles in her 16-year long jump with a personal best leap of 5.17m.
Ellie New and Grace Barry also excelled at the CIS carnival in their long distance events.
Ellie set personal bests in her 12-year girls 800m and 1500m and continues to improve in both at each new competition while Grace Barry also set a personal best in the 3000m at the CIS titles.
