The VRA, along with police and ambulance paramedics, were called to Guyra Rd near Gilgai on Tuesday afternoon after a cattle truck tipped, injuring the driver.
The B-double was laden with 50 head of cattle when it rolled, killing 13 beasts.
Authorities had to euthanise another nine at the scene after they were injured in the crash.
The VRA was helping to round up the remaining cattle when one volunteer, aged in his 60s, was struck by a winch cable being used to remove the cattle from the truck.
He was assessed at the scene by paramedics and taken to Guyra hospital, where he was treated for a fracture to his collarbone and later released.
The driver of the truck suffered rib, back and wrist injuries in the rollover and was transported to Armidale hospital in a stable condition.
Police are investigating the crash.
Officers have been told the truck was negotiating a right-hand bend when the driver had to manoeuvre the semi-trailer to avoid another oncoming vehicle, which was travelling in the middle of the road.
Investigators are appealing for any witnesses to contact police at Inverell at 6722 0599.
