BRIAN Garland had an angel behind a dream on Saturday when the Gunnedah greyhound trainer claimed a quinella in a final on his home track.
Deb’s Dream made up for a sloppy start to come screaming home in the 347m Yagoona Supporters Final with kennel mate Bindigo Angel finishing strongly for second after both Garland dogs took out their respective heats last week.
Kevin Sills’ Springsteen finished a close third, although the placings were five lengths off the lead after Deb’s Dream turned it up at the top of the straight before streaking away.
The win makes it three firsts, two second and a third from her last six starts, as the three year old flew to her fifth career victory, shattering the 20 second mark along the way to record a time of 19.75 seconds.
For the younger Bindigo Angel the seond place makes it a first and two seconds from her last three starts, bouncing back from a seventh and two eights in June and July.
“I am very happy with that,” Garland said.
“I wasn’t expecting it but I was hoping for it.”
“They had a pretty strong race going.”
Deb’s Dream is normally a solid starter, although after drawing box five and missing the jump Garland thought it was over. “She hasn’t missed a start for 10 races straight until today,” Garland said.
“I was hoping for one, two or three because she likes the inside.”
Despite that her last two wins have come from the outside last week and the middle five box on Saturday, and it has Garland thinking there could be more in the tank.
“We will come back next week and see where they put them both,” Garland said.
“After that Deb’s Dream will have a spell because she has a few niggles.”
“Then we will be back to see what she can do.”
Earlier Greta trainer Bradley Sabotic began to emulate what Garland had already done, taking out both heats of the Ladbrokes Stakes with full sisters Midnight Mytic and Midnight Panda.
Sabotic will return to Gunnedah this Saturday to try and take the one two as well.
