North Tamworth’s Kim Greentree and South Tamworth’s Brad Hogan won the day from Brian McLean and Tim Stanton with Cec Wales and Brian Konz third.
Phil Hennessey’s widow, Joyce, was on hand to present the Phil Hennessey Memorial Shield to Kim and Brad with her daughter Yvonne Fisher while son Bob Hennessey, who is recovering from a serious illness, also attended.
Wheelchair-bound for the moment, Bob has been in Tamworth Base Hospital for almost three months recovering from a disease that attacked his nerves and muscles.
“I’m on the mend,” he said.
He wasn’t going to miss his father’s memorial day though.
“Phil was a life member of this club,” Bob said of a marvellous man who was also a founding member of the West club.
“I’d just like to thank the club for allowing us to remember him.
“It’s been great to honour dad.”
Phil Hennessey died 10 years ago and, while last year’s memorial day drew 24 teams, just 16 turned out on Thursday.
