Facilitated by the Country Women’s Association Namoi group, those visits were reciprocated last week when a dozen residents were taken to the preschool for morning tea and some fun in the sun.
To work up an appetite, residents and preschoolers did some gardening in warm, spring conditions, then the children helped serve morning tea to their visitors.
Namoi CWA publicity officer Colleen Wills said the visits were mutually beneficial, as seniors who didn’t see their grandchildren as often as they liked, got to interact with the littlies – and vice versa.
“The smiles on the older people’s faces say it all. It’s great for the kids. It’s the little things like serving morning tea that teaches them life skills and good manners, too,” Mrs Wills said.
