It’s being dubbed A Night for Wyatt, according to spokesman for the organisers, Adam Newman.
Little Bendy battler Wyatt Powell, who, along with twin brother Jack turned one at the end of August, doesn’t even know Beccy Cole or Sara Storer, but he and his close-knit family will no doubt remember for a long time what impact the two dedicated mums had on raking in much-needed funds for Wyatt’s ongoing care.
Wyatt, infant son of Andrew and Christie Powell, and baby brother to twin Jack, two-year-old Riley and sister Monique, 9, was born with the rare Noonan’s syndrome which has affected his heart, kidneys, given him fluid on the brain and lung issues.
He had his first operation back in June when fitted with a PEJ (percutaneous endoscopic jejunostomy tube) for feeding through the stomach. Now he’s facing the day-to-day wait for possible surgery to the hole in his heart.
And all that costs dollars.
The close-knit community of Bendemeer and surrounds has come to the rescue, with the hope that A Night for Wyatt will ease the financial burden on the Powell household.
Also accompanying Beccy Cole to Bendy will be talented singer Libby O’Donovan.
“The big attraction will be the girls who have all donated their time to help out, but we’ve also got a massive auction, plenty of activities for the kids, team roping on the Saturday and barrel racing on the Sunday,” Mr Newman said.
“Each competitor in the team roping will donate $15 towards Wyatt’s fundraiser. Every cent made over the weekend goes to Wyatt.
“Around 6pm, the music will kick up, then we’ll have the auction, followed by more music. There’ll also be a licensed bar operating.”
The local CWA will also operate a canteen.
Auction items to go under the hammer include four service fees to cutting, campdraft and reining horses.
“Heaps of other stuff, too, like equipment, dinners, fodder, top soil, fertilisers, hairdressing, horse rides, and offers are still coming in.
“Mel (Wyatt’s aunt Melissa Griffiths) has done a fantastic job, too, getting stuff together. But the whole community of Bendemeer and Walcha (where Wyatt’s dad Andrew has a mechanical business) have all rallied.
“Tamworth, too – Christie is an emergency nurse there, so a lot of people are getting behind them.”
