Attempt to break into Manilla club

AN ATTEMPT was made to break into a Manilla club on Wednesday night, while in Tamworth three more homes were broken into while residents were inside.

One homeowner chased an intruder from his house, only to be punched in the face by a waiting group of men.

Before midnight, the 59-year-old occupant heard his dog barking at his May Ln home in the city’s south.

He went to investigate and saw a man in his house who then fled.

He gave chase but the intruder met up with a group of men who confronted the resident.

He was threatened and punched in the face before the group ran off.

An amount of cash and cigarettes were stolen from the home.

A few hours earlier, police had responded to a security alarm activated at a Manilla club.

Police said it appeared someone had tried to gain entry through a rear window and set off the alarm.

About 2am, a home in Thompson Cr, West Tamworth was entered and a backpack was stolen.

The 56-year-old resident was home at the time.

About 30 minutes later, another West Tamworth home was broken into through a front window.

The 46-year-old resident was home at the time and went to investigate after hearing a noise and saw the would-be intruder running away.
