In the second instalment of a three-round series, Gunnedah hosted West Tamworth, Armidale, Inverell, Moree and North West Tennis Academy (Tamworth) for the inter-town match-ups.
Last weekend’s Gunnedah team included the formidable talents of Dale Martin, Emily Osmond, Craig Louis, Andrew Osmond, Andrew George and Kyra Carlyon who filled in for an injured Gabby O’Gorman.
Gunnedah beat North West Tennis Academy 11-3 in the morning session before consolidating with an 11-0 win against Inverell in the afternoon.
Team spokesman Craig Louis said it was the exceptional talent in the Gunnedah playing ranks that led to the strong results.
“We have very good depth in our side,” he said, highlighting the superb skills of Carlyon to pick up where O’Gorman left off.
“We’ve got a number of quality players who play to a very high standard.”
Gunnedah is the only undefeated team and leads the six-club tournament with one round left to play at Inverell on November 29.
There they will play Moree and, from there, a potential showdown against one of the Tamworth teams .
Having won every match they have played so far, Louis is rightly confident about their championships prospects.
The Gunnedah tennis coach considered the teams event a good change of pace from the typical individual, regional competitions.
“It makes things a bit more interesting,” Louis said.
“It’s great for the juniors too – they get a lot out of it playing the older players.”
