Narrabri Shire Council revealed yesterday the deadline for expressions of interest for the Narrabri to Sydney route was August 31 and Northwest Airlines and JetGo had put forward submissions.
Council will now start the assessment process and present the results to a future meeting of council.
General manager Stewart Todd said it was great to see the interest in the route.
“It will be a great outcome if we can secure a carrier for our Sydney air route,” he said.
“It will provide a further boost to the local economy and open up further opportunities for the shire.”
Northwest Airlines is a carrier based out of Scone and JetGo services the Tamworth to Brisbane route, as well as operating services out of Dubbo and throughout Queensland.
Narrabri has been without a Sydney service since the collapse of Vincent Aviation last year.
