Sydney's biggest three yards will provide 14 of the 16 runners in the $250,000 group 2 race over the famous Randwick mile, flexing their muscles as a new spring dawns.

James Cummings (Precedence) and John Thompson (Tremec) are the only other trainers represented in the race after entering their resuming stayers.

But Waller's record invasion of the Chelmsford - a race in which he prepared the first six across the line last year - hasn't bothered O'Shea and Waterhouse, whose own prospects are well found in betting.

"I can't worry about Chris's horses, I'll let him worry about those," said O'Shea, who will saddle up $3.30 favourite Hartnell as the best of the two Godolphin hopes. "And I'll let James [McDonald] and Sam [Clipperton] worry about ours."

Waterhouse's Pornichet chased home Waller's Royal Descent in the Warwick Stakes a fortnight ago and has been installed a $5 fourth pick with Ladbrokes.

Asked about any concerns over the Waller gang with Kermadec and Royal Descent leading the charge, Waterhouse said: "It doesn't worry me at all and [Pornichet] is going super ... absolutely super."

But apparently not super enough for satchel swingers to elevate him above the resuming Hartnell in early markets as Godolphin's The BMW winner makes his return ahead of a Melbourne-centric campaign.

The gelding ran a slashing second to stablemate Contributer - an odds-on favourite for the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes at Moonee Valley on Saturday - in his first Australian start in the Chipping Norton Stakes earlier this year.

"To be fair, we were pretty bullish about him first-up in the Chipping Norton and he ran accordingly," O'Shea said. "We're just hoping to be competitive [on Saturday].

"He's probably bigger and stronger and just a little bit fresher and he's been trialling accordingly. He's probably been racing a little bit too fresh to be fair.

"I just want him to have a nice day out and to do everything right. If he's good enough to win then that's great, if not that's no big deal."

Already with the benefit of a first-up run, Waterhouse's trademark positivity has certainly extended to French import Pornichet as he builds steadily towards a Cox Plate campaign.

"I thought [his Warwick Stakes run] was nothing short of sensational," Waterhouse. "He's going super and I'm really happy with the horse. He certainly can [turn the tables on Royal Descent]. He's training like a really good horse and he's ready to rock'n'roll.

"The Cox Plate is a big ask, but he's certainly going in the right direction."

O'Shea will be hoping his Chelmsford Stakes second-stringer Complacent will start heading in the same direction after being severely checked in his return from a long injury lay-off in the Warwick Stakes.

A top class three-year-old stayer, Complacent ($26) has had some support with bookmakers to cause a boilover against his more fancied middle-distance opposition.

"I was [happy with the Warwick Stakes] until about the half mile," O'Shea joked. "We'll go back to the drawing board on Saturday."

Contributer's Cox Plate campaign will start at the track where O'Shea hopes it will end with a weight-for-age championship success as he takes on Moonee Valley specialists The Cleaner and Mourinho in the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes.

"He's going really well, but he's just drawn a little bit soft," O'Shea said. "We've got to make sure he jumps and it's a good test for him because there's a couple of really good Valley horses there, but I can't fault his work there on Tuesday morning."
