The announcement comes after the awarding of the ambulatory care centre project tender to Richard Crookes Construction Pty Ltd.
The federal government’s Health and Hospitals Fund and the NSW government are jointly funding the $211 million second stage of the Tamworth hospital redevelopment, with respective contributions of $120 million and $91 million.
“The new Tamworth hospital building includes state-of-the-art facilities for many of our acute and inpatient services, and the next stage will deliver new facilities to house important outpatient services,” member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said.
“The new ambulatory care centre to be built on the lower levels of the Bruderlin Building is an exciting innovation that will allow better co-ordination of outpatient care.”
Currently outpatient clinics are located at a number of sites across the hospital campus.
“It means patients who attend multiple clinics may have to move from one location to another to receive their care,” Mr Anderson said.
The new centre will combine the majority of outpatient clinics in the one location, including the renal unit, fracture clinic, diabetes service, paediatric clinic and obstetrics and gynaecology clinics.
Works will also include a minor refurbishment of the Bruderlin Building’s top level to house orthopaedic wards.
