The 35-22 win in the inter-regional final puts them into the quarter-finals at Bathurst next week.
It’s the first time the boys have reached the final eight for a while.
The girls have made it the last two years, winning the title two years ago.
Tamworth Public’s Melissa Mack said it was a pretty even game.
Tacking Point scored first off a free-throw, and it was basket for basket from there for a while before the home side edged out to a 20-7 lead at half-time.
“We didn’t score much in the last quarter,” Mack said.
“They were closing to an almost uncomfortable point.”
They had lost Jack Dadd to an injury, which did throw them a bit.
He and Bailey Keech really drove the ball strongly up the court.
They were well supported by all the other boys, Mack said, but they, particularly, were very good.
She said Tacking Point were quite physical and good at “snatching the ball back”.
Tamworth’s cause was helped by the height of Connor Watt.
He was good on the rebounds and under the basket, scoring 23 of Tamworth Public’s 35 points.
Keech and Dadd both chipped in with five.
Tamworth will have two schools at the finals, with the Tamworth South girls winning their inter-regional final 58-25 earlier in the week.
