More than 800 students and staff embarked on their annual walkathon to raise money for the Catholic Children’s Missions, and more specifically the construction of an orphanage in India.
It’s the eighth year the event has been held and, with the likelihood of $24,000 being raised from yesterday’s 14km trek, it will take McCarthy’s overall total over the years to more than $200,000.
Teacher Luke Adams said the school’s efforts made it the number one fundraising school for Catholic Children’s Missions across Australia.
Two years ago students pounded the pavement to build a school in a little village in Zambia, Africa, and last year the $27,000 that was raised helped furnish it.
