Officers from Tamworth did a yoga session, led by Tathra Yoga & Healing’s Charlie Abra, while Barwon Local Area Command police took part in a morning tea in Moree.
The message of Wear it Purple Day is that young people have the right to be proud of who they are, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
Barwon Local Area commander, Superintendent Gelina Talbot, said it must be remembered that the youths of today would be the leaders of tomorrow.
“They should be supported and promoted so that they know every one of them is unique, important and worthy of love,” she said.
The Moree morning tea was co-hosted by NSW Health and Moree Plains Shire Council, and guests included students from the secondary college, the council, health and education workers, and town residents.
“It is extremely important that our young people know that living is for everyone and we all have the right to be proud of who we are,” Superintendent Talbot said.
“It’s been great to have such a positive group of people here this morning celebrating this very fact.”
In Tamworth, the yoga session was organised by headspace.
“The aim is for young people everywhere to know that their support-base is far greater than they could have anticipated,” headspace said in a statement.
“As more purple is worn by young people, in the workplace, on the streets and online, we are saying to young people everywhere: you are not alone.”
