The Northern Inland Credit Union-sponsored Tamworth Gymnastics Club is hosting the tournament, which will see gymnasts from clubs around the North West competing against gymnasts from Canberra, Sydney, Newcastle, Brisbane, Newcastle, Wollongong, Coffs Harbour and Dubbo on Levels 3 to 10.
Last weekend the club took 20 girls down to Newcastle to contest the Blackert Gymnastics Academy Invitational Level 4 to 10 carnival and came home with eight overall champions, thirteen gold, five silver and five bronze medals.
Nearly every gymnast brought home a medal but Georgia Pryer was the standout gymnast, winning gold on vault, bars and beam and fourth on floor to take the overall champion first place on Level 7.
Other overall places went to Tori Monaghan (second overall on 4 junior), Georgia Goodwin (first overall on 4 senior), Abby McGrath (second overall on 4 senior), Marni Evans (third overall on 4 senior), Paige Seaton (third overall on 5 junior), Skyler Dowden (second overall on 5 senior) and Julia Hannaford (second overall on level 9).
It follows the Level 5 State Championships last month where 12-year old Josie Douglas became the club’s latest state champion.
Douglas competed in the 12yrs division, placing third overall and also winning silver on bars and placing fourth on vault and sixth on floor.
She then moved to Level 6 and, with a week of training, contested the NSW Combined High School gymnastics championships at Newcastle, where she placed first on bars on her new level.
Seaton, Dowden, Jemma Baker, Ellie Hannaford, Lexi May and Hannah Dowden also competed at the State Championships, bringing home nine medals between them.
Seaton, competing in the 10yrs division, won gold on vault and silver on bars to finish fifth overall.
Dowden was in the 12yrs division alongside Douglas and placed third on vault and bars and fourth overall.
Baker, Ellie Hannaford and May competed in the thirteen years division, with Hannaford placing second on vault and Baker placed third on vault, while Hannah Dowden competed well in the 14yrs+ division.
Spectators are welcome to come along this weekend.
There will be a full canteen and coffee van in operation as well as a visiting top-quality leotard store.
