TAMWORTH police were required to shoot dead a kangaroo after it was hit by a car and critically injured in a suburban street on Tuesday night.
About 10.30pm, police were called to the Piper and Tribe streets intersection where the kangaroo was hit.
The kangaroo was believed to have come into town from bushland just to the north of where the incident occurred.
Police attended and discharged one shot from a firearm, killing it instantly.
Residents have been reminded to keep a look out for the wildlife in the vicinity, especially at night.
