Emily Warren, from Mungindi, admitted in Tamworth Local Court this week to supplying a prohibited drug hat’s more than an indictable quantity, after an incident in January.

The 25-year-old was arrested at the Tamworth Correctional Centre on January 10 after drugs were found at the location.

A drug detection dog and handler were patrolling the jail on the day of the incident as family and friends were preparing to enter the centre for visiting hours when the drug detection was made.

Warren was immediately detained outside and police were called to the scene.

According to police, Warren was attempting to supply 14 strips of buprenorphine  inside the centre when she went to visit an inmate at the jail.

The drug, which is usually taken as a replacement for opioid dependence like heroin and narcotics, can only be obtained via a prescription. 

During the brief court proceedings this week, solicitor Rae Parker said Warren was to be committed for sentence to the Tamworth District Court.

DPP solicitor Fiona Irwin tendered a brief of evidence and told the court a second charge of introducing proscribed  poison into a place of detention was placed on a back-up certificate to be heard in the district court.

Magistrate Michael Holmes has ordered a pre-sentence report from authorities to examine Warren’s background a- head of a sentencing hearing in September.

She remains on bail.
