She arrived for her surgery on Monday, July 20, to remove a cataract from her eye, only to be told she was the first to be operated on in the new surgical unit.
“This unit is just outstanding. The staff are certainly enjoying themselves with all the up-to-date facilities,” Mrs Shumack said.
“I feel proud that the new hospital we now have was well fought for by Mr Windsor, Mr Draper and Mr Anderson.”
Mrs Shumack said she feels wonderful after her surgery, but it was a double-edged sword.
She’s now able to continue research into her family tree, something she gets a lot of enjoyment from, but said with her eyesight so good following the procedure, she’d noticed a few lines that weren’t apparent before.
