The novel mid-competition league raised about $32,000, which will be distrbuted between the chosen charities of the four sides.
The security company nominated Ronald McDonald House as theirs and as the winners will donate 40 per cent of the kitty to the charity.
The money was raised through various avenues, such as fundraising events, the umpires donating their match fees and fines for things like striking out or making an error.
“It’s been really good,” Martin said.
One of the most enjoyable aspects has been playing with guys from other clubs, with the four sides drafted from the local clubs.
And while it was still competitive it wasn’t “over the top”.
On Saturday his side overcame the previously undefeated Chandler’s Tree Service 6-2 after scores were locked at 2-all after four innings.
MMES made their move in the fifth scoring two runs including a home run to Wes Krannenberg.
“Wes hit an infield home run,” Martin said.
“That got us to 4-2.”
And put them out of reach.
There was still a few innings to go but from there they just shut Chandlers out.
“Grant Sippel came on and pitched the sixth, seventh and eighth and they didn’t get a run,” Martin said. Brock Ridgewell had pitched the first five and pitched well.
He also registered two hits as did Martin and Chris Dyson. Kris Bird was Chandler’s best and continued his good form with the bat.
“He’s got 14 doubles in four weeks,” Robert Chandler said.
“He hit pretty well.”
He also pitched for five innings and threw well. Simon Norvill and Mitch Holt also had hits.
Psarakis Accounting won the third/fourth play-off 4-2 over Firefly Finance.
