The carnival will feature 75 teams with up to 700 junior players representing teams from Armidale, Inverell, Walcha, Uralla, Kootingal and Tamworth.
75 teams have entered the carnival in age groups from Under 6 to Under 16s.
At 2.15pm, women’s football will be the focus, with a representative open women’s game to be played between Armidale and Tamworth teams, Northern Inland Football general manager Stephen Griffith said.
“Its great to see clubs such as South Tamworth United, Kootingal Kougars and Inverell fielding teams this year,” Griffith said.
“Team entries are up 10 per cent on last year and the Armidale teams are excited to be playing teams from other towns.”
The carnival starts at 9am Sunday and concludes around 3.30pm.
Age group games are played as a round-robin, with matches played over 15 minutes while the women’s representative game will be played over two 30-minute halves.
The Armidale association is also pleased to announce Armidale Town and Country Real Estate has come on board as a carnival major sponsor and join McDonald’s Armidale, Northern Inland Chiropractic and Armidale City Bowling Club as major supporters of football in Armidale.
Carnival chairman Graham Parsons said the carnival was named in memory of ADFA life member Jack Vallance, who had a major involvement in the development of junior football in the Armidale region.
“The support of our clubs and their volunteers together with the generous support of our sponsors is critical to the success of the carnival and we thank them for their contribution,” Parsons said.
