SINCE 1947, the Tamworth Dramatic Society has been great at spotting talent and potential in the city’s up-and-coming thespians, but finding new accommodation is not the society’s forte.

Society vice-president Daniel Gillett said the old Scout Hall in Griffin Ave had been home to the society for some time, but it now needed to find a new home, due to development on the site.
“A very generous benefactor has allowed us to use the old Egg Board building in Taminda over the past few months, but we only have access to that space until December this year,” Mr Gillett said.
The society is run entirely by volunteers, and sourcing real estate is not their expertise, so finding a suitable site is proving a difficult task on top of rehearsals for ’Allo ’Allo, opening at the Capitol Theatre next month.
The society committee fears that, without a dedicated home, the society will no longer be able to produce plays locally, which would be a great loss to the many actors, technicians, crew and enthusiastic audiences who enjoy the experience of amateur theatre.
Mr Gillett said while drama was the society’s forte, its accommodation needs were pretty practical and straightforward.
“We don’t need anywhere particularly sophisticated, just somewhere safe, with at least a 10-metre x 10-metre flat indoor area,” he said.
“It would need to be available for at least two years.
“We also need somewhere we can be a bit noisy rehearsing and building sets, and that’s accessible enough to load sets and furniture in and out of a truck.”
Anyone with a hot property tip, land open to development, or space they’d like to discuss with the committee, is invited to contact Mr Gillett on 0410 359 333 or email the committee at tamdrams@gmail.com
