South Armidale did their Northern Conference prospects no harm when they drew 2-all with Oxley Vale Attunga in their grand final replay at Carter Street.
James Wright and Ryan McDonald scored for the Scorpions against an OVA Mushies side that led 2-nil after Jack Diebold and Adam Watson had struck for the home side.
“They got one back just before half time,” OVA coach Tim Coates said.
“Then they snuck one in the last few minutes.
“They probably deserved a draw. It was a fair result and they played some good football in the second half.
“We had created some good chances in the first half too but couldn’t convert.”
Brendon Fergie was at his best for the Mushies while goalscorers Diebold, Watson and Cameron Skewes also excelled.
At Marius Street the Gavin Thompson-coached North Companions had a 2-nil win over a young and rebuilding North Armidale Redmen.
A Ben Davis penalty and a Brodie King goal were good enough for the Men In Black.
“It was another good result for us,” Thompson said.
“We played well. Everyone worked hard.
“We knew they would play us wide and trained for it.
“Our first goal was a penalty after Nick Bowden was dragged down in the box and the second a very good goal, some good one-touch stuff between Nick, Jake (Thompson) and then Brodie to finish off.”
North Armidale coach Andy Lennon through Jason Boundy, James Frost and Declan Druitt were his best.
Goalkeeper Dan Cherry also excelled, making some good saves.
“We do have a young side but I was happy enough with the way we played but our own errors are killing us.
“There was nothing on when we gave away the penalty and then they scored when we were passing it out of defence.”
At Gunnedah’s Wolseley Park the home side surprised Demon Knights, scoring a 4-2 victory with two goals from new goalscoring star Sam Hos while Andy Cygan and Craig Louis also netted against a side who replied with goals from James Thompson and Josh Quaife.
