While they will stage a national championship at Oakburn Park in October, the club is primed for a move indoors to stage their first major event “under cover”.
The NSW Solo Championships will be held in Tamworth’s Australian Equine and Livestock Events Centre (AELEC) on December 11/12.
Last Tuesday the local club staged a “demonstration day” to see if the AELEC was indeed fit to stage a major title event.
What they found was a “short and sharp” circuit more than adequate for what they want.
The whole idea is the brainchild of longtime club president Paul Slade.
He invited about 30 riders, juniors and seniors, along to race and test the “new” track.
Among there were Central Coast’s former Australian Long Track champion James Hinton.
He was enthusiastic about the idea and drove up to make sure it fitted his dreams.
“It’s built for bikes,” he laughed after a few laps and a few races on the short circuit.
“It’s going to make for some good racing.”
He thanked Slade for the opportunity to test the track.
“He’s been planning this for a long while,” Hinton said.
“Everyone is going to be competitive – we’ll all be on an equal footing.
“And we’ll be under the roof.”
