A thrilling 6-5 win over Firefly Finance earned Mick Martin Electronic Security their final berth at the Field of Dreams on Saturday, weathering a concerted final surge by the below-strength Firefly side.
Natalie Crittle’s great running catch at right field ended a game in brilliant fashion with the Firefly side two down, but with loaded bases.
“It was a pretty good game,” said MMES co-coach Pancho MacDougall.
“It puts us in the final next week.
His co-coach Len Holt agreed.
“A great game, it went right down to the wire.”
Grant Sippel started on the mound for MMES and threw five good innings, striking out two Fireflys.
Brock Ridgewell then relieved and struck out four more batters before Chris Dyson finished off in a final innings, snuffing out the Firefly surge.
“We went awfully close,” said Firefly Finance coach Dave King.
“Did well with three or four of best players out, but the guys who replaced them played up and above themselves. We did well to get that close. Matt Law was outstanding. He got a couple of hits and a couple of outs at first base.
“But all the young kids dug deep.” In the other game unbeaten Chandlers Tree Service had a 12-9 win over Psarakis Accounting in a game where Kris Bird stood out.
After starting on the mound and throwing strongly Bird then came up with two triple base hits.
“Nugget pitched very well,” said CTS co-coach Basil Penrith.
“Then young Jack Richards pitched well.”
The young left hander was replaced by Simon Norvill who also finished strongly.
