There were too many personal highlights for me to mention all of them, so I’ll let the photos do the talking.
For me, it’s all about catching up with good friends, letting music soothe my soul and seeing as much as I can squeeze in over four days. Mission accomplished!
Next week I’ll pick up where we left off on the USA tour in Nashville.
**** Check out the Hats Off gallery on The Leader’s website.
SONGWRITERS THREE: Kevin Bennett, Felicity Urquhart and The DAG owner John Krsulja.
CATCH-UP: Val and Peter Murray of Dapto tuck into a Mary Clark sandwich at The DAG on Saturday. Mary is their Tamworth friend of many years’ standing.
EARLY RISERS: Graeme Doubleday and his mate Big Al Herbert (Double Trouble) with True Grit Breakfast Show host Wild Bill Davy, right, at the Tudor Hotel.
LEARNING THE ROPES: Aspiring country singer-songwriter Veanka from Yass, watches and listens at the talent on stage at the Tudor brekky show. That’s Dave Pianoman she’s pointing to.
FAVOURITE: Anthony Taylor, second from left, is one of my favourite Australian country singers. He’s pictured at South Tamworth Bowlo with his hot band, from left, Brad Rose (guitar), Paul Novosel (drums), Simon Johnson (bass) and Tomi Graso (pedal steel). At the bottom right you can see Alby Pool.
NATURE’S BEAUTY: This was the fabulous sight we saw driving in from The DAG on Saturday evening. Just perfect.
CHEEKY: Darren Carr brought his little wooden mate out of the box for his Hats Off finale gig at South Tamworth Bowlo. The cheeky puppet made a play for Werris Creek singer Marie Hodson.
TIME OUT: Tamworth musicians Buddy and Goori Knox loved the show out at The DAG on Saturday.
LOVERS, NOT FIGHTERS: Attunga country music fans Peter Todd and Karen Muir checked out the Simply Bushed gig on Friday night at the newly-renovated Tamworth Services Club and loved the new entertainment area.
PURE COUNTRY: Marie Hodson and The Bootleggers (Anthony Walmsley, Matt Parnell, Andrew McMahon and Alwyn Aurisch) put on a beaut show at The Pub on Friday night. Photos: Anna Rose
SISTERS IN SONG: Christina George, Patti Morgan, Lynette Guest, Wendy Wood, Tracy Coster, Anne Kirkpatrick, Sally-Anne Whitten, Johanna Hemara and Allison Forbes at the standing-room-only, CCMA all-girl salute to Anne Kirkpatrick at South Tamworth Bowlo on Sunday. Photo: Mel Birrell
OLD FRIENDS: Annette and Terry Clifford of Emmaville, country music fans and old mates of mine from way back, really enjoyed the CCMA Jam at The Family on Thursday night – and the rest of their Hats Off weekend gigs.
BEER BUDDIES: Simon Ware and Dave Pianoman caught up for a beer or two at the CCMA Jam on Thursday night.
