I note that there is to be another series of the most enjoyable The Dr Blake Mysteries. I'm curious as to whether in a show, which always looks historically accurate, Senior Constable Charlie's sleeve chevrons are facing the right way. I acknowledge it is a very minor point, but generally police and military chevrons in the Australian dress are in the upright V shape, not the inverted V as is the case in most United States uniforms. This may not have been the case in the period in which Dr Blake is set. Can somebody enlighten me as to which is the correct positioning for the period? I can accept that one response could be, "Get a life! Who cares?" and fair enough, but I still would like to have my curiosity satisfied.

Did anybody else watching La Vie en Rose (SBS, June 20) notice that a short sequence, shown before a commercial break at 11.15pm, was shown again immediately afterwards? Were we watching a pirated copy?

Still Open All Hours? Are you kidding ABC? Talk about back to the `60s! I feel like Benny Hill will come running in at any moment. Maybe it's being run as a favour to Tony Abbott. I'm sure he'd relate to it really well, although I'm not sure it'll be enough to appease him at the moment.

Review a misfire

Oh, Craig Mathieson, you couldn't be more wrong! I have had many lol moments from Open Slather.  From the impeccable imitations in Mad Men and Downton Abbey to the parodies of MasterChef and Shark Tank, there is plenty to like and laugh at. It's a joy to see some of the comedy stalwarts back, and there are some great newbies too (that's you, tall bald guy). That makes your review quite the "dispiriting misfire".

Women's soccer welcome

With regard to the Women's World Cup Football, thank you SBS for broadcasting this competition.  Women's soccer may be played at a slower place than the men's game, but it is just as entertaining. The players are to be commended for their skills and honesty. Maybe SBS could take over coverage of the W-League now that it has been dropped by the ABC because of budget cuts.

Subtitles readily available

To Roger Stanley (Your Say, June 25), who could not understand the dialogue on The Secret River and wished that subtitles had been available, the answer to your problem is on your remote, as all digital TVs and set-top boxes have captions readily available. Check your operating manual if you have trouble finding the relevant keys.

Strobe lighting diminishes special

The Four Corners special on the Mafia in Australia (ABC, June 29) was interesting and an excellent production. Please could the producer explain why strobe lighting had to be used, as many viewers are not able to tolerate this for various medical reasons.

Lack of coverage disappointing

Having been promised by both Foxtel and Channel Seven that coverage of Wimbledon would be really properly comprehensive this year, once again I am both cross and disappointed. Day two, 7.30pm London time, 13 matches happening "including Centre and Court 1", and neither channel thinks anyone is interested, so they've stopped live coverage. Message for programmers: it's not just the Australians we're interested in.

Ads kill the plot

Well, Ten, you've done it again! Sat down to watch Zoo and quickly lost the plot due to the onslaught of advertising, which virtually eliminated any link from one scene to the other because of the sandwich effect of the number of ads. You did it with The Dome and now Zoo. I switched off after the first episode and bought the book by Stephen King. I'm now doing the same with James Patterson's Zoo.

Unenjoyable English

English lies bleeding from the heart of England. In the latest episode of Father Brown (ABC, July 2), produced by BBC Birmingham, guests at a garden party to celebrate the opening of a new English vineyard are invited to "enjoy". In Chesterton's day, the verb to enjoy was transitive. In the English language, it still is so.

Spot the actors

It's quite fun to spot the actor in the reruns of BBC favourites (Your Say, July 2).  An episode of A Touch of Frost featured a familiar face in a new young sergeant. It was Neil Stuke, later to appear so memorably as chambers clerk Billy Lamb in Silk. Midsomer Murders is another source for this little amusement, once with Hugh Bonneville appearing as a feckless young man and possible murder suspect, with Downton Abbey still below the horizon. It's not so much "Where are they now?" as "Look where they are now.

Just cheap to make

Wayne De Lacy rightly resents the plethora of reality shows currently on TV (Your Say, July 2) and wonders if they are trying to make the mundane seem interesting. Wayne, I suspect that the reason for these programs taking over the airwaves is much more prosaic – they're cheap to make.

Where are the radio presenters?

Why is it that every school holidays all 774 ABC Melbourne presenters disappear into the woodwork? As soon as there is time to sit down and listen to the radio, we are given stand-ins. Surely the regulars can't all be babysitting their grandchildren!
