The Paul Perry-trained gelding son of Beneteau hung for a nose win from the fast-finishing Moment Of Music in the $15,000 2TM/92.9 2YO Handicap (1200m) in what was a fine return to racing for Tamworth jockey Glenn Lynch.
He was having his first ride back from a broken foot and celebrated well.
“He’s a nice horse,” Lynch told Shannon Perry, son of trainer Paul Perry.
Tatoosh was having his third start and could have easily won all three, Shannon Perry said.
“He was unlucky at his first run,” Perry said.
“He’s certainly come to hand since.
“He is a nice horse and we might take him to Sydney now.”
The Perrys train Tatoosh for Bene Racing and their representative, Trevor Bullen, was on hand yesterday to see him win.
“He did trial well and then got run off his legs at Newcastle (fifth at first start),” Bullen said.
“He’s had a couple of nice wins now and we might go to town and give him a try.
“It’s a big jump.”
Kenny Succeed made the big jump from a trial to a race win when the Mark Hatch-trained gelding son of Bel Danoro raced away with the Downtown Magazine Maiden Plate (1000m).
The unraced three-year-old cruised home to a four and half length win from Craig Martin’s Navajo Chief with Greg Ryan a bemused jockey.
“He’s a dumb big bugger,” Ryan told owner and strapper Zac Hatch.
“He was in and out, changing his line all the time.
“He cleaned up about four of them at the start.
“He’s a strong big horse but doesn’t know what he’s doing yet.
“I just roared at him all the time and kept him on the bridle.”
Mark Hatch was delighted with a second winner in six days at Tamworth after Zarcas had delivered last Saturday.
“He’s been working good,” Hatch said.
“But we don’t know how good he is going because he doesn’t have much to work with.
“Zac bought him cheaply off Nick Green.”
Zac is also a backrower for the West Lions first grade side and will be on deck for the unbeaten Group 4 competition leaders when they play defending premiers North Tamworth in a huge top of the table clash tomorrow at Scully Park.
