That’s despite the loss of a few stars such as Matthew Hodge and Dan Overeem and new Roo boy Brandon McRedmond.
It still leaves a number of other talented players such as Daniel Leon, Jed Ellis-Cluff, Hayden Chapple, Brad Rees and Weston Whitby to spearhead the local rep side’s attack against a North Coast side which has dominated recent rep games.
“I played in the 2013 game in Armidale,” Economou recalled this week.
“We should have won that.
“Inaccuracy in front of goal cost us in the end.
“We’ll certainly be competitive there this time.”
The likes of Whitby, Narrabri’s Michael Miskle and Todd Fagan have been scoring consistently while Nomads goal sneak Dave Richards has snapped plenty of six-pointers in recent weeks.
Economou said he still has a handy side despite missing the goal-kicking talents of Roos pair Overeem and Hodge.
Their Roos teammate, Daniel Leon, has been in sparkling form, with big Ben Evenis and Brad Rees amongst the Roos’ best.
Economou is most happy though with his midfield, where he has the likes of Andrew George (Bulldogs), Todd Dunn (Eagles) and Chapple (Saints).
“All three are fantastic footballers,” he said.
“It’s good to have their experience too.
‘Todd and Hayden are also my assistant coaches and make it easier for me.
“You don’t really need to coach a team like this.
“They are all good players and will enable me to sit back a little and enjoy the game.”
Today’s game kicks off at 2pm at Bellevue Oval, Armidale.
