The 17-year-old, who cannot be named because of his age, has also been charged over a bag-snatch and a 2012 break-in after fresh evidence came to light.
The boy appeared in an out-of-sessions bail hearing in Armidale Children’s Court yesterday morning where he was refused bail, despite lodging a bid for release.
The court found he was an unacceptable risk, and rejected an application proposing strict conditions for the boy. The teenage boy was arrested by Armidale Target Action Group officers and general-duties police on Wednesday morning after they had reason to believe he was hiding in a Niagara St home.
Police will allege the boy resisted officers and after a struggle he was apprehended.
The boy had been wanted in relation to the stealing of a Domino’s pizza van after he allegedly took it on a joyride through Armidale on June 21 before abandoning it in a Girraween carpark.
Police will allege the boy also snatched a woman’s handbag as she walked along Donnelly St on May 24.
New England crime manager Detective Inspector Ann Joy confirmed the boy was also charged with a warrant relating to a break-and-enter in Armidale dating back to 2012, after fresh evidence came to the attention of investigators.
The youth will appear in court next week on charges of driving while disqualified second offence, police pursuit second offence, illegal use of a delivery van, steal from person, use an offensive weapon to avoid apprehension and break and enter with intent.
