On Monday Urban will be the first celebrity to co-host Sunrise, as different stars take over Kochie’s seat for the week.
Tamworth Regional Council is keen to welcome the superstar if he wants to jet up to the Country Music Capital after his co-hosting gig.
Council’s business and events director John Sommerlad said the city would be more than happy to welcome him.
“If he does want to come up, we will roll out the red carpet to welcome him,” he said.
Mayor Col Murray is also keen to roll out the red carpet and joked that Urban should be in touch soon about a visit next week.
“I’m sure we could arrange a red carpet from the airport to the city, if he did decide to come up. I haven’t had a call from him yet about a visit next week, but I’m anticipating the call sometime soon,” he said.
Cr Murray said he was hopeful that a visit would be on the Urban family’s calendar in the near future.
“I’m hopeful, and I understand he’s keen to bring his family up here,” he said.
“We have a mini-festival in full swing this weekend and he’d certainly put a bit of a spike into Hats Off.”
On a more serious note, Cr Murray said the council was looking into encouraging Urban to the city for January.
“We’re thinking about it for festival time and wondering whether we can excite his interest,” he said.
“I don’t really know if he would like to come during festival or at another time, but we’d certainly love to have him anytime.”
