While the Nomads were dismantling the Gunnedah Bulldogs with a massive 230-point win in Armidale, the Roos were too slick for the Narrabri Eagles, kicking 24.8 154 to the Eagles’ 11.8 74 at Tamworth’s No 1 Oval.
At Moree, the home side Suns stunned the Tamworth Swans, scoring their first win since rejoining the TAFL.
Joe Hinchliffe, Alec McCall, Max Beinke, Dominic Brown, Zach Collier and Stan Smith all starred for the Suns in their 9.14 68 to 7.8 50 win.
Jason Walker and Stan Smith both kicked two goals each with Zach Collier, Jayden Smith, Daniel Kearney, Alec McCall and Luke O’Neill all adding goals as well.
While the Tamworth Swans slumped, the Tamworth Kangaroos impressed, with Dan Overeem (5), Dean Hoy (4), Matt Hodge (3) and Rhett Graham (3) kicking majors.
“At one stage we’d kicked 15.1,” Roos coach Tony Bishop said.
“That put a lot of scoreboard pressure on them.”
The Roos had started well but so had the Eagles, coming out and matching the intensity of the home side.
“It was a real entertaining game,” Bishop said.
“Both sides kicked some real good goals.
“It was a fairly even first quarter but the second quarter we played very well and they might have been disappointed we put a fair gap in them but we were just a bit too slick and kicked straight.”
Narrabri Eagles captain-coach Todd Dunn was disappointed with the loss but not the way his side played.
“They (Roos) are a good side. They have quality players right across the park,” he said.
“We are improving each week but just have those five- minute lapses where they kick three or four goals.
“That happens three or four times a match and that’s the game.”
Bishop had a host of good players, led by Daniel Leon, and including Mitch Penberthy, Graham, Rob Sizer and vice-captain Brad Rees.
The Eagles were best served by Todd Fagan, Michael Miskle, captain-coach Todd Dunn, Andrew Weymer and Bailey Clark.
Weston Whitby (9) and captain-coach Zac Economou (8) kicked 17 goals between them as the Nomads dominated the Bulldogs in Armidale, kicking 37.15 237 to 1.1 7.
Paddy Tobias, Luke Raymond, Weston Whitby, Dave Richards, Zac Economou and Wulu Hall were best for the Nomads whilst Ethan McDonald, Matt Pengilly, Andy Mack, Jake Vigor, Luke Curgenven and Beau Herbert tried hard for an out-gunned Bulldogs.
While the rep game against North Coast will be played in Armidale this Saturday, the Tamworth Roos and Swans will line up to play their recently washed-out match at No 1 Oval next Tuesday night (July 7).
