The two-day carnival is also a Bob Fowler CNDBA Bowler of the Year Award event and, with just four more events to be played, it looms as a vital tournament for those bowlers in with a chance to follow Chris Herden and Nick Golledge in winning the prestigious award.
The CNDBA’s Peter Kachel said a capacity field would line up at South, the pairs playing three games today and tomorrow.
“There are 56 bowlers contesting the South Tamworth Major-Minor Pairs and seven of those bowlers are in the top 10 and vying for the 2015 Bowler of the Year,” Kachel said.
“There will be plenty of great games on the weekend as each bowler endeavours to pick up a valuable 70 points for winning the carnival.”
As a result of the Winter Triples played at West Tamworth over the June long weekend, Chris Collins (North Tamworth) has become the outright leader on 190 points.
“Chris Herden was on 180 points leading into that event but unfortunately was unable to play as he went to Cessnock and qualified for the Australian Indoor titles to be held in Tweed Heads at the end of August,” Kachel said.
Kim Greentree (Kootingal) and Les Goodchild (Kootingal) collected 70 points for being in the winning team at West Tamworth and are both on 180 points.
Terry Cummings (West) jumped 70 points from 100 points to 170 points leading his team to win the West Winter Triples.
Bryon Cullen (Kootingal) did not play at West Tamworth and remains on 160 points.
Craig O’Toole (Kootingal) did play at West Tamworth and received 20 points for playing. He is on 160 points. Joe Pizzutti (West) also picked up 20 points at West and is now on 150 points.
Graham Harriott (Kootingal) received 30 points at Wests (20 for playing and 10 points for being placed) and is on 150 points.
Bob Cummings (West) received 70 points, being in the winning team at West Tamworth, and is now on 140 points.
There are two bowlers on 130 points – Rick Douglas (South), who is playing this weekend, and Scott Thorning (South).
Ron Barnett (West), Peter McLean (West) and Nick Golledge (South) are on 110 points and there a host of bowlers on or near 100 points.
Werris Creek is the next Bowler of the Year event on Sunday July 5 (open triples), followed by North Tamworth on Saturday, August 15 (men’s pairs), Manilla on Saturday-Sunday August 29-30 (2 bowl triples) and Kootingal on Saturday-Sunday September 19-20 (2 bowl triples).
