Such was the interest, the North and North West Showjumping Club started the indoor sweepstakes event an hour earlier to accommodate close to 200 rounds.
George Johnson, from Nelson near Sydney in NSW, and the ever- consistent Wondaree Sprite added another ribbon to their huge collection with a win in the 1.25m Sweepstakes, finishing ahead of 40 other impressive combinations.
Wondaree Sprite, a 16-year-old mare owned by Catherine Wallace, is a regular in the placings and they were the only combination to place in all three Part 1 events at this year’s Canberra Royal.
Johnson is keen to continue his fine form, aiming for a victory in the Sue Alden Memorial Grand Prix tomorrow afternoon.
Sprite is quick and light across the ground and the tight tracks in the indoor will suit her.
Amber Fuller from Glossodia, NSW and Valeska were second ahead of Brooke Langbecker from Aratula, Queensland and Riverside Freedom in third.
Cade Hunter from Singleton, NSW and La Laina won the 1m Sweepstakes. Paige McBain from Greengrove, NSW and Greengrove Indeed won the 1.10m Sweepstakes.
Entry for spectators is free all weekend.
