Along with the new fairy garden, the youngsters can also enjoy their new mud kitchen, which produces many varieties of pizzas and pies – of the mud variety, of course, according to the facility’s 2IC Cheryl Perry.
“We’ve been fortunate in the last 12 months with several grants, including a $5000 discretionary grant from local member Kevin Anderson. Our own local creator Gareth Blinman crafted a mud kitchen and fairy garden, with castle and all,” Mrs Perry said.
“The kids get down there with their fairies and dragons and have a wonderful time. And we made some great pies in the mud kitchen the other day – Vegemite, rock, mud – all good.
“Though, today, we made some real pizzas and ate them outside in the garden.”
The 35-child preschool also recently received $6500 from a Preschool Disability Support Program (PDSP).
“From that, Gareth will be creating a sensory overload garden outside,” Mrs Perry said.
“In that, the children will be able to relate to things like hearing by way of chimes or even banging saucepans, touching, sight, tasting things like herbs, smelling things like curry and lavender plants, and feeling.”
Also down the track will be a project to revamp inside furniture, which will be funded by proceeds from the recent Dancing with the Stars in Manilla.
“Our furniture has been here with us since we opened in 1976, so it’s really ready for a revamp,” Mrs Perry said.
