That was Roos coach Tony Bishop’s blunt assessment after the top-of-the-table clash where the two sides had 24 scoring shots apiece but the Nomads kicked 14.10 94 to the Roos’ 9.15 69.
“We need to learn from that,: Bishop said as he pondered what went wrong out in the middle of No 1 Oval.
“There are positives but we’ll go back to training and work on a few things.
“They are tall but we didn’t play the way we wanted to either.”
He thought the debut of Brandon McRedmond was a highlight.
“He does know his way around an Aussie rules field,” Bishop said.
“He’ll only get better for that.”
He also thought Mitch Penberthy was best on ground for the Roos.
The Nomads also welcomed back tall Thomas Hunt, last year’s best and fairest Nomad.
He came into his own in the second half and, with Tom Granleese, controlled the backline brilliantly.
In the other games, Gunnedah Bulldogs belted the Tamworth Swans by 107 points and the Inverell Saints kicked 14.19 103 to the Moree Suns’ 4.3 27 at Varley Oval.
Kieran Te Velde and Chris Whitton both kicked three goals for the Saints who were best served by Andrew Schneider, Luke Selig, captain-coach Hayden Chappel, Nick Baird, Sam Kimmence and Chris Schneider while Suns captain-coach Nick O’Sullivan spearheaded his developing side with good support from Robert Kemp, Dominic Brown, Alec McCall, Joe Hinchcliffe and Stephen Lott.
New England Nomads now head the TAFL table by just over one percentage point from the Roos whilst Gunnedah Bulldogs and Inverell Saints are joint third and the Narrabri Eagles one win away in fifth.
