The Joeys beat North Companions 3-2 at the Inverell Sporting Complex while the OVA Mushrooms beat Demon Knights 5-nil and finished the game with 10 men to DK’s nine.
DK had veteran Chris Daly sent off in the first half along with young Josh Quaife following a tackle, an offside ruling and their comments regarding both.
OVA led 2-nil at the time and banged in three more while Chris Fenton was also red-cared for a second bookable offence in the second half.
Both coaches believes the rulings to be harsh and asked for consistency regarding swearing rules that have been in place for many months.
“We were behind the eight ball,” DK coach Evan Quaife said of the 23rd minute red cards for Daly and Josh Quaife.
“We tried as best as we could with eight men in the field and a goalkeeper. Actually created a few chance too as OVA obviously dropped off a bit too.
OVA coach Tim Coates said the two first half red cards effectively killed off the game as a spectacle.
“We banged in a couple more but then just tried to knock the ball around and not embarrass DK any more,” Tim Coates said.
“Full credit to DK they did try very hard. It would have been very hard to play with nine men for 60 minutes or so.
“They were very amicable after the game, there was no animosity between the two clubs.”
Luke Purcell and Adam Watson both scored goal doubles with Lachlan Browne also snaring the fifth on a day where the OVA seconds had a 3-1 win with teenagers Nash Tapp (2) and Kyle Steel both scoring. Up in Inverell the Joeys had a one-goal win over North Companions with Jackson Haussler, Brent Pedlow and Daniel Ferris on target.
Brodie Patterson and Will Kam replied for the Men In Black who sit second to OVA on the Southern Conference, seven points adrift and equal with Gunnedah FC.
Tamworth FC climbed back into contention with a 4-2 win over South Armidale.
Englishmen Michael Porter and Billy Webb scored along with Tim Smith and Josh Bartlett.
It was a debut goal for Webbwhile a third Englishman, Mark Woodward scored a hat trick in second grade.
Cameron Potter also snared a hat trick FC’s 14-nil win over South Armidale but he and Woodward were outgunned by teammate Kurt Barrow, who blasted in seven.
South are lying fifth in their Northern Conference with Joeys six points clear of a North Armidale united who beat Namoi United 6- in Narrabri.
Tyla Cook claimed a hat trick for the Redmen out west as Cody Magann, Reece Burton and Andrew Magann also made the score sheet while Moree FC and East Armidale played out a 2-all draw in Moree.
