British Discovery Channel program, How Do They Do It? visited Banalasta, north of Bendemeer, to show the world how Australia makes eucalyptus oil.
Banalasta owner Rolf Blickling said they were filming the harvesting of the Eucalyptus Australis, or narrow-leaf peppermint gum, the distillation of the oil and the packaging of the oils that are sold in the shop on the property.
“It produces the finest oil in the world,” he said.
“It is only distilled once and has an excellent aroma. We export our own products worldwide.”
About 90 per cent of the eucalyptus oil used in Australia is imported from other countries, including China.
It’s not the first time documentary makers have set up their cameras at Banalasta, but it’s the first time the Discovery Channel has visited the property, which also produces lavender and wine products.
Producer/director Chris Holding and cinematographer Martin Spratt work freelance for the Discovery Channel.
Mr Holding said the segment on the New England’s eucalyptus oil would feature as part of a larger show, with most segments being eight minutes long.
As well as showing the process involved, the segment will include full interviews with everyone involved, including distiller Markus Weber, ending up with a factually accurate look at what it takes to make eucalyptus oil.
It is not yet known what date the segment will air on the pay television channel.
