AN event was held at the New England Regional Art Museum last month that saw the community contribute funds towards the purchase of Margaret Olley’s The Yellow Room Triptych (2007).
The Yellow Room Jigsaw fundraiser was held by the museum’s dedicated membership group, Friends of NERAM.
The aim of the community event was to help raise funds towards the purchase of the famous oil painting – of an interior in Olley’s house – for NERAM’s Howard Hinton Collection.
Friends of NERAM have already donated $5000 to the Yellow Room Appeal.
This important oil painting, regarded by many in the art world as Olley’s masterpiece, has been reproduced as a jigsaw puzzle and those who attended were able to own their very own piece by donating an amount of money.
People were able to choose their favourite piece of the puzzle with each piece being a fixed price and purchased on a first-in-best-dressed basis.
Pieces were various shapes and sizes and priced from $50 to $5000.
The idea to purchase the piece was initiated earlier this year when the Friends of NERAM, NERAM Foundation and NERAM board decided to support the acquisition.
The Yellow Room Appeal – a two-year campaign – is aiming to raise the required amount of $400,000 to make the purchase.
Contributions to the Friends of NERAM Yellow Room Jigsaw fundraiser helped to ensure Olley’s masterpiece stays in Armidale for the community and visitors to enjoy for generations to come.
The Yellow Room Appeal also welcomes donations of any amount. www.neram.com.au/yellowroom
