NEW England residents have been invited to connect to the National Broadband Network (NBN), with the high-speed internet service already live in the Armidale and Tamworth areas.
Some residents in Armidale – one of the first five release sites across the country – can already connect to the fibre network.
Areas including the University of New England are active and 15 per cent of premises in those areas have been connected so far.
“These services are here, it is cost competitive with what they (already) have and in most cases significantly better,” NBN Co external relations general manager Trent Williams said.
Construction on the remainder of the fibre footprint in Armidale is coming to completion.
Around Tamworth, fixed wireless services have gone live in the Duri, Winton, Tintinhull and Hallsville areas.
Other fixed wireless services surrounding Tamworth are being worked on and construction on the city’s fibre footprint is due to begin late next year.
