James Poulton made no application for bail when he appeared in Armidale Local Court yesterday morning following his arrest on Friday.
The 36-year-old spent the weekend in prison after he failed in his bid to be released on bail on Saturday during an out-of-sessions court hearing when the court found he was an unacceptable risk of committing further offences.
The show cause hearing was triggered because Poulton is charged with several gun-related offences including four counts of possessing a prohibited weapon, acquiring firearm parts, two counts of possessing an unauthorised firearm and two counts of possessing ammunition.
During yesterday’s brief proceedings, Armidale court heard Poulton will apply for bail in June.
Magistrate Karen Stafford adjourned the case, which has also been referred to the DPP.
Poulton is also charged with supplying and possessing ice, after investigators allegedly discovered about 14g of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $14,000 during a raid last Friday.
Acting on information, officers from the Armidale Target Action Group, Armidale detectives
and police executed a search warrant on a Canambe St and allegedly found a number of firearms, knives, cash and a large quantity of jewellery and electrical items which are suspected of being stolen.
“It is very pleasing to see our police taking action against suspected ice suppliers,” Armidale Inspector Chris McKinnon said.
“They are peddlers of misery and death and we will continue to do all we can to make sure their impact in Armidale is reduced.”
Inspector McKinnon said police had not ruled out laying further charges.
“Investigators will be making inquiries into the large quantity of property seized,” he said.
“We will be doing all we can to return the items to their rightful owners.”
