Manilla Kennel Club president Vickie Harris said owners and their dogs had a “fantastic” weekend at the event.
There were 526 individual dogs entered across the three events – conformation, rally and obedience.
The canines and their trainers travelled from as far away as towns and cities throughout Queensland as well as Sydney to compete.
“They travel from so far away for the opportunity to be able to perform in three events,” Mrs Harris said.
Conformation is judged by looking at the dog and on the quality of the dog and grooming and coat, the rally is a fun obstacle course where the dogs go over jumps and have a lot of fun and the obedience is making sure the dog is doing what their owner is telling them to.
“The dogs just enjoy being with their owners because dogs are happy if they’re with you,” Mrs Harris said.
The event has also attracted plenty of business into Kootingal with more than 80 camping sites occupied at the Kootingal oval for the weekend’s activities.
“It’s definitely great for the community,” Mrs Harris said.
The event attracted all different breeds with any dogs able to participate.
The kennel club’s next event is at Gunnedah grounds on July 3 and 4 for rally events and they return to Kootingal on July 18 and 19 for rally and obedience with competitors expected to travel from “all over” for these activities.
