Six clubs from around the North West are part of the league that will be played over three weekends at different centres.
The North West Tennis Academy and Tennis NSW are behind the idea and NWTA head coach and Treloar Park representative Campbell said the competition had been an instant hit.
“It is a fantastic country challenge that hasn’t been seen for a long time,” Campbell said.
“This is also the best standard of tennis you will get in the country.”
Teams are made up of four men and two girls, and has attracted the best pros, coaches and players around.
Inverell, Gunnedah, Moree and Armidale are joined by two Tamworth sides, Treloar Park and West Tamworth.
Young Gunnedah girls Gabby O’Gorman and Emily Osmond were wiping the courts yesterday along with a strong men’s team led by Alistair Hillard.
“He is a gun and the girls are very good as well,” Campbell said.
Gunnedah were undefeated on the first day, while Treloar Park just got over West Tamworth in the derby and were undefeated heading into the final games of the day.
Daniel Nash and Tim Clark were undefeated as a doubles pair and as individuals, along with Campbell for Treloar Park.
“We have instant camaraderie, instant rivalry and we are lifting the playing standard all over,” Campbell said.
“The competition is red-hot and hard-fought but it is also a fantastic day.
“These teams have a long history of playing each other.”
The next round will be played at Gunnedah in September.
