With plenty of hard work under their belts (and dresses) the stars hit the dance floor with their partners to dance their way closer to finding a cure as part of the Stars Of Tamworth – Dance For Cancer.
Cancer Council NSW North West office community engagement manager Amy Walker said the night “went really well” thanks to the dancers and a “great, enthusiastic crowd”.
“The stars and partners put on a really professional show, which was fantastic because most of them were amateurs,” she said.
“They put on a really great concert and we had younger stars than normal and that brought the enthusiasm up a bit. They had a couple of group numbers and worked well together.”
Konner Bird from Teys Australia raised $6000 as the highest fundraiser for the event.
In other highlights, the men put on a Magic Mike dance to open the show which included Joe Townsend not only having velcro on his shirt, along with the other dancers, but also velcro on his trousers. Mr Townsend, from the NSW Business Chamber, and partner Abbey Condon took home the People’s Choice Award. The Judge’s Choice, the highest award of the night, went to Tara Biffin from Biffin’s Personal Training and Pat Burrows from Pat’s Lebanese Catering who did a tango number.
Ms Walker said the stars and their partners were chosen after a call-out around Tamworth for participants for the fundraiser.
They’re already on the hunt for charity dancers for next year’s event.
“I had a couple of people come up to me on the night who have said they want to get involved next year,” Ms Walker said.
“We can’t wait to do it all again next year.”
The next major events for the local office of the Cancer Council is Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea on May 28, Daffodil Day in August and Relay for Life in October.
