Kurt Barrow took the initiative up front and was on target finishing with a hat-trick of goals while captain Tim Smith bagged a brace.
Jack Byrne and Cameron Potter added the extras as Moree struggled to hold their defence together on the wrong end of some very lopsided possession and territory stats.
Like their colour-sake in the A League, the Tamworth sky blues looked dangerous all game, skipper Smith disappointed that the side didn’t find the back of the net more often.
“It should have been more,” Smith said.
“Their (Moree) goalie did have a great game and made a lot of saves but we had a lot of shots.”
The skipper was very pleased to be back in the winner’s circle after cross town rivals OVA touched them up 4-1 last week, following a close 3-2 defeat at the hands of Gunnedah FC the week before.
“We have been playing a bit ordinary lately although we put some really good patches together today,” Smith said.
“We haven’t been finishing very well but put some good ones away.”
“It is positive and good to see.”
Tamworth were working the ball down the edges with great success, young wingers Jarrod Chester and Josh Bartlett kept busy.
“They are young fit blokes so can run all day,” Smith said.
Holding the ball and moving it down the fringes hurt the visitors, who struggle on the road with over half the team already playing a full game in reserves.
Smith was all praise for his centre forward and centre back, with the team working well between them.
Barrow was on a mission at the front and had a big game while Bart Twyford held the side together under pressure.
“Bart and our keeper Rob Chase had good talk all game and directed the side from the back,” Smith said.
“Our passing was spot on and we avoided the long balls.”
“The whole team played really well, I am very happy with it.”
Tamworth are hoping to be able to take the momentum on the road for the first time this season as they make a tough trip to East Armidale next week.
Oxley Vale Attunga also a tough trip to North Armidale’s Phil Wheaton Oval on a weekend where the Armidale clubs are all at home as Demon Knights host Namoi United at Rologas 2.
Both DK and Namoi United are winless.
In the other Armidale game at Armidale Sportsground South Armidale Scorpions host Moree FC.
South are on a roll and coming off a 4-2 win over East Armidale while Moree has another long trip to negotiate after Saturday’s 7-nil loss in Tamworth.
The other match has Gunnedah at home to Joeys FC.
United were unbeaten until the young North Companions handed them a 4-2 loss at Wolseley Park last Saturday and Richard Grant’s side will have its work cut out against an unbeaten Joeys FC, spearheaded by Jackson Haussler.
