The Tamworth schoolgirl is aiming at a State All Schools berth for her next main running event after winning gold in the Little Athletics Australia Under 13 100m final in Perth.
One of 22 squad members in Team NSW, she excelled by winning the 100m, finishing second in the 200m and then grabbing another silver medal in the 4 x 100m relay.
Coached by Adam Jolliffe at the Tamworth Little Athletics, she had also run brilliantly at last year’s Australian PSSA championships in Penguin, Tasmania.
Although there she won gold in the 200m and silver in the 100m.
When asked which distance she preferred she was unsure.
“I like both,” she said.
She loves running fast though.
When she won her State Little A’s 100m at Homebush, she ran 12.67secs but took a tenth of a second off that to win the national title in 12.57secs.
However her 200m at State was quick, 25.06secs, just .02secs short of the national record.
In Perth she ran 25.50secs though, a little slower but that was attributed to a big day where she had started at 10am with heats and finals and finished at 6pm after also finishing 12th in the high jump.
Emma said Calrossy has “been very supportive of me” and is keen to run fast later in the year at school and regional carnivals as she hopes to earn a State All Schools berth.
The daughter of Bernie and Colleen Klasen also knows how much work it’s going to take.
She trained five days a week over the last 12 months, her Tamworth coach varying each session to cater for different parts of the sport, such as starts, power and fitness.
