Get into the team spirit and show your true colours

FOOTY fans are invited to show their true colours tomorrow –  and in the process, make a real difference to the lives of children fighting cancer.

Footy Colours Day is an annual event that assists the Fight Cancer Foundation, a non-profit registered charity, to fund programs to assist young cancer sufferers.

Whatever your code or colour, be it AFL, NRL, rugby union or soccer, ensure your workplace, school or club is registered to participate and wear your team colours proudly by visiting the www.footycoloursday.com.au  website.

At the Wests Entertainment Group, which has more than 100 employees, Footy Colours Day is a chance for staff to challenge each other in a fun way for a seriously worthy cause.

Wests’ spokeswoman Fiona Ainsworth said each participating staff member paid a penalty of $10 to don their favourite guernsey, scarf, beanie, jersey or jeans for the day, with all money going to the foundation.

“We have departmental challenges, a team challenge, a code challenge and a club challenge,” Mrs Ainsworth said.

“And it’s not only our staff who join in. Members get into the spirit and chip in as well, making it a really great day out at Wests and Wests’ Diggers – not to mention a colourful one!”

The Fight Cancer Foundation is known for its Back on Track program, designed for school children with cancer. With long absences from school, this provides a tailored tutoring program for each child.

Every $500 raised provides the use of a laptop for six months and for every $1040 raised, for a year; every $2500 raised provides a tailored tutoring program for a child for six months; and $5000 funds a tailored program for a year.
